The Free Bikes 4 Kidz Madison workshop is located at 354 Coyier Lane, Madison, WI 53713. This is where you will bring your bike donations Mon-Fri, 9:30-3pm. FB4K Madison’s program works like this:

All year long: We accept and refurbish donated bikes. In the fall we have numerous bike donation drives. Check our News page for information on fall donation drives. We are happy to receive your donated bicycles dropped off at our workshop at 354 Coyier Lane in Madison all year long.

April-May: We hold bike giveaways on Saturdays. We give bikes away through our nonprofit and school partners. Our bike giveaways are not open to the public because we want to ensure that those most in need are receiving bikes or that they are going to diverse communities who have had historically had fewer opportunities to enjoy biking. All of our bike recipients are pre-registered by our distribution partners at public schools or nonprofit organizations. If you’d like a bike, you need to contact a nonprofit partner or your child’s school. They will let you know if they are participating. We don’t have the capacity to go and pick up one or two bicycles but if there are 10 or more, we may be able to find a volunteer to come to you to haul bikes. Send us an email and we’ll see if we can work it out.

June – August: At this time, our operations are focused on bike service repair for the public. Providing service repairs during the summer months allows us to be more sustainable and able to continue our valuable bike giveaway program. Hours for dropping or picking up a bike for service are Mondays and Fridays from 9:30-3pm. We are located at 354 Coyier Lane, Madison, WI 53713.

How do I get my bike repaired?

We are excited to open as a community bike shop for the first time for the summer/fall months of 2023! What does this mean? It means we are open Monday through Friday from 9:30am-3pm to fix your bikes. No, we probably won’t be able to fix your $10,000 tri bike but if you have a reliable steed with hundreds of miles on it and it needs some love and attention, bring it to us and we’ll repair it for you. All proceeds help fund our bike giveaway program. Tuneups, flat repairs, brake adjustments, are a few of the basic services we are offering. We also have a workbench available fully stocked with tools if you’d like to fix your own bike. If you need parts, you can buy them from us at cost.

You can bring your bike to our workshop at 354 Coyier Lane, Madison, WI 53713 on Monday through Friday between 9:30am-3pm. You can also make an appointment by email if you prefer. Our turnaround times are about one week and our pricing is about half of what you’d pay at a for profit bike shop in Madison. Have a bike or other things to donate?

We accept bike donations year-round. You can drop them at our shop at 354 Coyier Lane, Madison Monday through Friday between 9:30-3pm. If no one is there when you are, just leave them by the end of the ramp.

If you want to donate a bike rack, we ask that it be 5 years old or newer. No roof racks are accepted unfortunately. If you have bike parts, we will accept them. Just follow the instructions for donating a bike.

We get hundreds of requests to drive to homes to pick up bike donations. We are a very small staff and do not have the time to do this unfortunately. We have seen people have success by putting up a post on social media asking someone to help transport them to us.

If you want to make a donation for our annual garage sale, we accept those donations in March through June but we ask that you bring them at least two weeks before the sale.

Want to receive a bike?

We give bikes away through our vast network of community partners at our giveaway events in April and May. Please encourage any organizations you may think could benefit from receiving bikes to apply to become a partner for our giveaway season in the spring. If it’s outside this period and you would like to receive a bike, please email us with the name of a nonprofit you receive services through or your school name of your child. We’ll do our best to work with you but we rely on these partners to vet our recipients because they know those who are truly in need.

If it is outside our normal bike distribution season in the spring, here is the process to receive a bike:

1. Bring us a letter on nonprofit letterhead with the name, title, phone number, and email of a person employed at a nonprofit organization where you receive services from.
2. Ask them to include one or two sentences verifying that you receive services from that nonprofit organization.
3. After you bring us the letter, we may need two weeks up to one month to locate a bike that fits your needs and for us to repair it.
4. Please provide us with your phone number so we can let you know when the bike is fully tuned up and refurbished.
5. Want to speed up the process? You can volunteer with us to clean the bike and help us refurbish it. After it has been cleaned, our professional mechanics will tune up your bike to ensure that it is safe to ride.

Want to volunteer?

We will need all the help we can get during our bike repair season December through May. We also need volunteers to help us give bikes away in April and May.
